We Speak Fluent Cat

There’s a saying in the veterinary industry that “cats are not just small dogs,” and we take that to heart! Indian Street Animal Clinic is incredibly proud to be a Certified Cat-Friendly Practice. This means that we’ve gone above and beyond to ensure that you and your cat’s visit is stress-free and tailored to the unique needs of our feline friends. Gentle handling? Check. Slow, calm pace? Done. Cat soothing pheromones? You may not be able to smell them, but we assure you that your feline friend can.

The Whole Kitten Kaboodle

You should schedule your kitten to see the veterinarian as soon as possible after you adopt. Here is some basic information on what to expect when bringing your new baby to visit us!

Comprehensive Physical Exams

Is your kitten’s growth on track? Are there any signs of current or future health issues? How large will your kitten get? Your Indian Street Animal Clinic veterinarian can help answer all these questions.

Vaccinations

Just like newborn babies, the immune systems of young pets are not fully developed. This means they are more susceptible to disease, so kittens need a series of vaccinations at monthly intervals to be protected. Generally, a kitten’s vaccines begin at around eight weeks old, with boosters given as needed every three to four weeks until they reach about six months. Your kitten will receive rabies and FVRCP vaccines; other vaccinations (such as FeLV) may be recommended depending on their lifestyle.

Intestinal Parasite Screening

It’s common for kittens to have intestinal parasites, which can make your new friend very sick. Some of these nasty critters can also infect your human family members, so routine deworming and fecal testing for intestinal parasites is a must for kittens. Should your kitten test positive for any unwanted guests, we’re ready to help!

Microchipping

One of the most important things you can do for your kitten is to microchip them. Unlike collars, microchips stay with them for life, making it much more likely that your cat will return to you if lost.

Heartworm, Flea, & Tick Preventative

Fleas and ticks are not only unpleasant, but they also carry disease and can be detrimental to a young kitten’s health. Heartworm disease is potentially deadly, and no treatment is available for cats. We’ll ensure your kitten is protected with their first flea, tick, and heartworm prevention doses.

Behavior & Nutrition Counseling

While it may be true that kittens don’t come with instructions, talking with our veterinarians about litterbox training, the importance of socialization, and other basics is the next best thing! We can also advise you on nutrition, feeding schedules, and how to choose the best diet for your new friend at every life stage.
